Welcome to all Registered BAS Agents, Transitional BAS Agents and aspiring BAS Agents.

Responsibilities of a BAS Agent From 1 March 2010, an individual or entity providing BAS services for a fee or other reward is required to register with the new Tax Practitioners Board as a BAS Agent under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 in order to provide those services.

  • Please take a moment to also read the Frequently Asked Questions article of Important Information for All Business Owners and Directors.

We would like to extend our support and congratulations to all the members of the new Tax Practitioners Board.  We believe that it is important to the new Tax Practitioners Board that this new regime causes as little disruption as possible to on-going business services.  There are generous transitional arrangements in place to make it very easy for self-employed bookkeepers and BAS preparers to comply with the new regime and register as BAS Agents.

If you have not already done so, take a moment and select the top menu option About to get an appreciation as to the journey we have undertaken and for the reasons of evolving this web site.

We would welcome any feedback on what you like, don't like, and what's not there that you really need.  During this web site evolution, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience and things that may not work like you expect them to.  Enjoy!

TRANSITIONAL BAS AGENTS
Working Under the Direction of a Registered Tax Agent:

If you have been providing BAS Services to your clients prior to 1 March 2010 Under the Direction of a Registered Tax Agent, then you should have had in place a formal agreement between the Client, the Tax Agent and you the BAS Service Provider.  Prior to 31 August 2010, the ATO originally provided some guidelines on their Bookkeeping Essentials for 'working under the direction of a registered tax agent'.  Please click here to download and review our sample DRAFT agreement between the Client, the Tax Agent and you the BAS Service Provider for the period prior to 1 March 2010.  This Word document can be easily edited and changed to suit your Tax Agents quality assurance and supervision requirements.  The period end date for any such agreement may only applies up to and including 28 February 2010 and may be subject to the new Tax Practitioner Board guidelines review after the new law takes effect.
