Welcome to all Self-Employed Bookkeepers that are not providing a BAS Service as from 1 March 2010 under the Tax Agents Services Act 2009.

From 1 March 2010, an individual or entity providing BAS services for a fee or other reward is required to register with the new Tax Practitioners Board as a BAS Agent under the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 in order to provide those services.

If you have been providing BAS Services legally between 1 July 2000 and 28 February 2010, to comply with the legislation one option was to Work Under the Direction of a Registered Tax Agent.  You are not legally allowed to continue providing BAS services from 1 March 2010 unless you notified the Tax Practitioners Board by 31 August 2010 that you wish to enter the new transitional system.  Alternatively, your only choice was to down tools and immediately stop providing BAS services as from 1 March 2010.  However, as from 1 March 2010 you could provide BAS services Under the Direction of a Registered BAS Agent or Tax Agent (this needs to be a formal and written agreement between the client, the BAS/ Tax Agent and yourself).  For more information please visit the new Tax Practitioners Board website or select the Registered BAS Agent link on the left.  Please take a moment to also read the Frequently Asked Questions article of Important Information for All Business Owners and Directors.

If you have not already done so, take a moment and select the top menu option About to get an appreciation as to the journey we have undertaken and for the reasons of evolving this web site.

We would welcome any feedback on what you like, don't like, and what's not there that you really need.  During this web site evolution, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience and things that may not work like you expect them to.  Enjoy!
